Elevate participants take NC State courses
Elevate, NC State’s inclusive post-secondary education program, partners with faculty from across campus so students in the program can take courses from all colleges. Students enroll in a range of courses in all disciplines which align with individual student personal development and employment goals. Elevate is a four-year certificate program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Program staff coordinate with instructors and Elevate students to develop an individualized learning contract to support their engagement in each course.

Faculty partners’ roles and responsibilities:
- Students will be auditing your course and are non-degree seeking.
- Treat the student as you would any student.
- Implement student accommodations and modifications.
- Partner with Elevate staff to increase access to coursework and social development within your courses.
Elevate staff will provide faculty partners support by:
- Modifying your syllabus based on the individual needs of the student.
- Collaborating with you to create Inclusive Learning Contracts as needed.
- Ongoing support, guidance and check-ins.
- Training on inclusive teaching practices, differentiated instruction to name a few.
- Workshops on understanding and including students with IDD in your classrooms.
